Weekly Bulletin 07-18-10
WELCOME to any new parishioners. If you have any questions about our
parish, please call any member of the Welcoming Committee: Julie
Jensen (776-7608), Lois Kramb (435-0697), or Deb Harriman (776-0078).
FATHER CUMMINS’ ABSENCE: Fr. Cummins will be on vacation from
July 26
th
through August 13
th
. During his absence, Fr. Nash will
celebrate daily Mass on Wednesdays only, July 28, August 4, and August
11. Fr. Nash will also celebrate Sunday Mass on August 1
st
. A guest
priest from Hampton, Fr. Danny Morris, will celebrate the August 8
th
Sunday Mass. Fr. Nash will also be available to handle emergencies.
DIRECTORY ADDENDUM: A directory addendum containing pictures and
addresses of our parish’s new members has been published. We have
enough for one copy per family. Please pick up your copy at the rear of
the church after Mass.
SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: Today’s readings speak of
hospitality. Abraham, who cheerfully did for his guests all that desert
hospitality required, was rewarded with his heart’s desire – a son. Martha
also busied herself with all the details of hospitality, but grudgingly and
with complaint. Am I a cheerful or a grudging giver?
PASTORAL CARE: To help us be attentive to the needs of the sick and
homebound in our parish, we ask that you call Lynne Richardson (776-
0949), or the church office (758-5160), when a member of your family
enters the hospital or nursing home or is homebound for any reason. We
will follow up to be certain that the spiritual needs of your family member
are addressed.
UPCOMING EVENTS AND MEETINGS: Help us celebrate the baptism of
Maeve Christina Preisser today after Mass.
NEW ARRIVAL: Born June 28
th
and weighing in at 7lbs. 13oz. was Brylen
Alyn Miller, the son of Jennifer and Bryan Miller. All are doing well.
FALL 2010-2011 TITLE I PRE-K PROGRAM: The Middlesex County school
system has announced next year’s program designed for four-year-old
preschoolers who might be regarded as “at risk” for eventual school
difficulties. It enables children to acquire readiness and social skills in
preparation for kindergarten. Enrollment details are posted on the
bulletin board in the old administrative wing.
YARD SALE 2010: Thanks to Jack Jensen for lettering and placing our
road sign on a very hot day. We are in need of yard sale items. If you are
going to donate items, please get them in as soon as you can. Michelle
and Bob Schmiel were going to have a yard sale in September, but have
graciously decided to donate everything to our sale. They have also
volunteered to help. It is gratifying to have the “new” volunteers who
have stepped up to the plate to help us on Wednesdays. Despite the
difficulties that we face, there are always those good Christians who
come through.
Carole McPherson, Chairman
PRISON MINISTRY: We are in urgent need of volunteers to visit inmates
at the correctional institution in Saluda. Please call Dick Zimmerman at
758-5810.
JOB VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Catholic Diocese of Richmond
has announced several job vacancies throughout the diocese. See the
bulletin board for more details.
USHER NEEDS: We are in need of more ushers and ask you (both men
and women) to consider volunteering for this ministry. Jack Janda has
increased the number of ushers we use each Sunday from three to four
and has placed them on a monthly schedule. To accommodate these
changes, we need more manpower. Please join this ministry.
RCIA: If you know anyone who is interested in learning more about the
Catholic Faith, please call Louise Petralia at 804-435-9027. Catholics and
non-Catholics are invited to attend the Adult Ed discussions.
CARE NOTE CHATTER: Make a commitment to at least one definite
prayer time every day and let the events of your day be springboards for
conversations with God. See Care Note “Squeezing Prayer Into A Busy
Life” in the foyer of the church.
CANCER CAUSE: We continue to collect boys’ caps – they are really
needed. The box for the hats is in the knitting room across from the
kitchen. Thank you. Karen Wilkins and Mary Jacobs
PARISH DIRECTORY: As you are aware, we published a directory
addendum (see Church Notes). But it is time to start thinking about a
new directory. Our present one is three years old, and we have set a
target date of next summer for a new one. It is a large undertaking which
requires a minimum of three volunteers. If anyone is interested in
volunteering for this effort, please see the office.
PLEASE REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS
